2010 BMW 750Li xDrive Review

Hamel BMW News Road Test Request

2010 BMW 750Li xDrive Review
by Marc Bouchard / Auto123.com
I could basically end this review with the sub-title above. I mean, how could I possibly write anything bad about a car like the 2010 BMW 750Li, a true German limousine which you normally feel more excited to take a back seat in than sit behind the wheel.

But that’s exactly where I’m getting at here. Admittedly, driving the 750 is a pretty unique experience. While it won’t send chills down your spine, it certainly delivers all the goods. And for a stately saloon, this one manages to exhibit some of BMW’s sporty character.

A giant among giants
Just so we’re clear: the BMW 750Li really is gigantic, dwarfing just about any other car on the road. In fact, it’s so large that it probably stretches across two time zones! (Actually, it stands 5.2 metres in length, nearly 2 metres in width).

A sharp, strong roofline and highly-prominent beltline connect the massive hood and raised deck. Overall, the majestic 750Li projects a commanding look right at first glance.

Obviously, the lucky few inside enjoy surreal amounts of room… and comfort… and coziness… and silence… and, well, everything. Materials are first-grade, fit and finish are flawless, and ergonomics reflect careful attention to user-friendliness.

After reading that last sentence, some BMW purists are probably saying: "Are you kidding me? There’s still iDrive, right?" Well, yes, the infamous iDrive control interface is back, but now, it mostly consists in a single multifunction knob in the middle of the console. Managing audio, navigation, climate and other settings proves easier than ever thanks to simple touch action.

As mentioned, comfort is plentiful. It goes without saying that the front buckets are divine. More impressive, though, is the fact that rear-seat occupants enjoy way more legroom than in my own living room at home, not to mention a retractable ottoman and heated/cooled seat cushions.
